You don’t have to be a biology
major to be able to identify plants & animals. All you need is a curiosity
about nature and some basic tips on using field guides. During these classes
you’ll learn where to find secretive salamanders, how to handle snakes, who
made those tracks, what made that sound and why native plants are so valuable
to both people and wildlife. You’ll also discover how you can become a "citizen scientist" and
assist with biodiversity monitoring efforts. Please note that this class can be offered for
multiple sessions.

2008 is the
seventh year that we have volunteered to teach this Outdoor Class as a
directed study at the incredible
National
Youth Science Camp
in Bartow, West Virginia. "The National Youth Science Camp is an
intense month-long camp for young scientists the summer after they graduate
from high school. In a rustic setting, students from around the country are
challenged academically in exciting lectures and hands-on studies, and have
many opportunities to push themselves physically in an extensive outdoor
program, gain a new and deep appreciation for the great outdoors, and
establish friendships that last a lifetime. Two students from each state are
invited by their governor to participate in this all expenses paid program."
