"Sharing unique nature experiences in every season"

Our Mission

Home

Our mission is to help preserve and enhance the biodiversity of the Allegheny Plateau.  Simply speaking, biodiversity is the number and variety of organisms in an area, and their genetic variations.  As the famous Harvard naturalist E.O. Wilson said, our children would forgive us for squandering their material heritage and possibly their cultural heritage but not their biological heritage.  Basically once a species is gone, it’s gone forever.

Habitat is being lost at an alarming rate, even in our most wild and rural areas.  Surrounded by a shrinking forest, we started our full-time family business in the spring of 2002.  Drawing on our years of experience in education and the environment, we molded our love of nature into Elk Ridge NatureWorks, LLC.  We propagate native plants, construct habitat boxes, provide nature programs and maintain a demonstration wildlife habitat garden.

Our efforts toward preserving and enhancing regional biodiversity include:

bullet

Propagate native plants from local seed

bullet

Improve wildlife habitat

bullet

Practice conservation landscaping

bullet

Control exotic invasive species

bullet

Volunteer as "citizen scientists"

bullet

Provide environmental education

It will take both of our lifetimes and the lifetimes of future generations to stem the current tide of threats to our planet’s biodiversity.  The best that we can do is to try to inspire others both young and old to cherish their biological heritage and to take action to preserve it, before it’s too late.  Our biological heritage is literally in our hands.
